Brazilian Mahogany
Brazilian Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) is a hardwood native to South America. Trees generally grow to be 46-60 m tall with a trunk diameter of 1-2 m. Brazilian Mahogany can vary in colour from a lighter pink-brown to darker red-brown. The colour of this wood tends to darken slightly with over time. It is commonly used for furniture, turning, cabinetry, musical instruments and carving. Brazilian Mahogany was listed as an endagered species on the CITES Appendix II in 2003 and its export is limited, making it a rarer timber than it once was.
